Laura Hotham
MACP, Registered Psychotherapist
Laura Hotham is a registered psychotherapist with a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Laura worked as a paramedic for 13 years and understands the unique stressors that someone who works in emergency services encounters on a regular basis. That experience, combined with her knowledge as a psychotherapist, gives her a unique skill set to help those who experience traumatic events in their profession.

She has experience providing individual and group therapy using various therapy modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, depending on the client’s needs.

She has conducted workshops for fire, police, and paramedic services, on various topics such as psychological wellness, peer team support, self-care, and support for family and friends. Laura recently conducted a research study with the Justice Institute of British Columbia, on building resiliency and well-being. She also delivers workshops for the Centre of Mental Health and Addictions.

In addition to working with first responders, Laura also has experience working in the area of mood and anxiety disorders and completed training at the Eating Disorders Program in Port Colborne, Ontario.

In addition to this, Laura is a psychology professor at Niagara College. She teaches into various programs including the paramedic and policing program, where she emphasizes the importance of resiliency and self-care. She is a registered member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
